The Niendorf original "Uncle Charly" also offered its services to holidaymakers with its sailing boat. The wood sculptor Wolfgang Gerdhagen has erected a memorial to him in the harbor. He also created the two wooden figures, The Caller and The Listener in the Old Customs House area.

At this point there was a ferry with a rowboat. My father operated this ferry for a short time after the war. When we were children, we took some holiday guests across in a rowing boat ourselves. That was around 1970. At that time, Uncle Charly, and later also Gü Möller, who operated a similar passenger sailboat "Seeadler", stopped. I was often out and about in the Bay of Lübeck with Gü Möller.
