A suggestive and unique route, among historical testimonies of the Great War and breathtaking views.A long and complex Austro-Hungarian military trench from the First World War rises, following the sheer drop of the Terragnolo Valley, from Serrada to Forte Dosso delle Somme. In the central section there is the actual Forra del Lupo, a narrow passage between high rock walls with observation posts, embrasures, positions for riflemen and machine guns, steps carved into the stone and shelters.
The Terragnolo Valley was particularly important during the war, especially in the initial phases, as a connection from Rovereto to the front line of the Altipiani, for the passage of troops and supplies: hence the need for the long defensive bastion above.Originally this small canyon was called 'Klebostuo' (Split Rock in the Cimbrian language); the Austro-Hungarians renamed it 'Wolfsschucht' (Wolf's Gorge) because of the hissing of the wind that, channeling itself into the narrow gorge, produces a sound similar to the howling of a wolf. The Forra del Lupo was rediscovered almost by chance only in 2014, after decades of oblivion: a group of enthusiasts recognized the area in the period photos of an Austro-Hungarian officer, Ludwig Fasser, and began to organize its recovery!trentinograndeguerra.it/context.jsp?area=101&ID_LINK=250&id_context=10161
