In this region you will always come across ruins reminiscent of the times of war.
The Fortress Sommo Alto in Folgaria is one of the seven large Hungarian-Austrian fortifications that lie on a stretch of 30 kilometers between the Vezzano summit and the Serrada promontory, on the Folgaria plateau and from the battles on the Venetian-Trento front First World War testify. It was built in the years 1911-14 and had the connection of the fortifications Doss, Delle Somme and Cherle to the main task.
Somehow impressive, somehow scary. Definitely worth a stop.

Called "Zwischenwerk Sommo", Fort Sommo alto was built on the hill of the same name, at an altitude of 1613 m, between 1911 and 1914.Arranged over three floors, it was equipped with two 10 cm howitzers in an armored dome and an observatory tower. The close defense was instead entrusted to 18 machine gun positions. Designed as a fortified barracks, during construction it was transformed into a real fort.Without a moat but protected by an embankment, it controlled the underlying furrow of the Orsara valley and, in agreement with the nearby Forte Dosso delle Somme, the Passo Coe pass.It was equipped with four advanced armored positions, connected to the central body through two long underground tunnels, which are still practicable.
