Ossuary at Oslavje
The Oslavje ossuary, located between the settlements of Pevma and Oslavje, was built in 1938 according to the plans of architect Ghino Venturi from Rome and houses the remains of 57,201 Italian soldiers and 539 Austro-Hungarian soldiers excavated from military cemeteries on the Banjska plateau. It lies at corner 153, on the left side of the line leading from Gorizia to Števerjan. It is reached by a magnificent stone staircase with a low railing and a cypress avenue.
The monument, reminiscent of a robust fort, consists of a large central tower with a tomb and three side towers (Prelli, Montanari and Langoris) in the corners of a triangle connected by underground tunnels.
The tomb cells of the identified soldiers are arranged in three rows along the walls inside the central tower and the inner walls of the side towers, and the unknown soldiers are buried in three common ossuaries in the middle of the side towers.
