It is possible, just, to climb hardknott pass with bike packing gear. Put the weight forward to stop yourself falling back or sideways (which happened to half the group!). Lots of strength needed to climb this! It is possible to walk up if need be. Ignore the locals who tell you you're crazy etc.

Pretty steep on the way down too.

It's hard to believe that this is NOT the steepest climb in the UK, as on some sections it's hard to keep the front wheel on the ground. Watch out for vehicles as some drivers will struggle more than the cyclists!

Tough ride, wouldn't fancy trying it with a loaded bike! Absolutely stunning views though, so highly recommend it. Don't feel bad if you need to get off and push for some segments!
