The parish of Schönberg was first documented in 1259. The church is situated on the Sconeberg, the highest point in the area, which gave the village its name. The current church is a new building designed by Johann Adam Richter between 1780 and 1784.

Architecturally, the building combines late Baroque elements with a classical hall design: brickwork on a granite base, large arched windows, and a striking tower define its appearance.
Inside, the wooden mirror-vaulted ceiling provides seating for nearly a thousand people.
A simple fountain stands in front of the church, and the cemetery is located behind it.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schönberg stands on the market square at the highest point of the "Sconeberg," the hill that gave the town its name. The first records of a church here date back to 1259; the current building was rebuilt in brick between 1780 and 1782 after a devastating fire in 1779 and is a protected historical monument.
