The construction of the canal from 1876 to 1881 required a lock for the difference in height between the Rheinsberg waters and the Mecklenburg lakes. This is how the Wolfsbruch lock was created at kilometer 2.37 of the Rheinsberg waters. The lock keeper works in manual mode. The lock chamber is 42.6 m long and 5.2 m wide. Depending on the current water level, the lock lift is 0.4 m.
With around 35,000 passages per season, it is one of the most frequented locks for pleasure craft.
