    Pyroxene quartz porphyry Großsteinberg quarry:
    The Wurzen Formation has its distribution in northern Saxony between Grimma and Eilenburg. Here, the Pyroxene Quartz Porphyry take the most generous space in addition to the Pyroxengranitporphyren and Andesitoiden. In the area of ​​Großsteinberg, the pyroxene quartz porphyry has probably been mined for several centuries, so that there were a variety of small quarries here. From the beginning of the twentieth century onward, the mining industry became more industrialized and the quarries merged into larger farms.
    - 1937 already produced 91,300 tons of stones.
    - In 1954 the factory changed its name to "VEB Vereinigte Splittwerke Hohnstädt / Röcknitz, Großsteinberg branch"
    - 1957/59 the work was expanded and fully mechanized
    - 1966 produced 586,000 tons
    - 1971 produced 891,000 tons
    - 1971/75 further reconstruction measures with an investment of about 12 million marks. During this time, 140 workers were employed in the three-shift system.
    - Since 1990, this work is operated by the Saxon Quarzporphyrwerke GmbH Röcknitz based in Thallwitz.
