Bathing is prohibited here, yes. This quarry was used by the Wehrmacht as a heavy oil storage facility at the end of World War II. They simply dumped several hundred thousand liters of oil into Leuna for gasoline extraction. After the end of the war, the carelessness of some people set this lake up in flames and it burned for a few days or weeks.

Hiking

East of Leipzig, in Ammelshain, lies the Haselberg quarry lake. The lake is operated by the Saxony State Diving Association. Guests from other federal states can dive in the lake for a daily fee and also stay overnight at the base on the lake.

The quarry lake drops in several stages to a maximum depth of 29 m. At the entrance, there are remains from the quarrying period. A trolley route leads into the depths, at the end of which there are also several trolleys that were used to bring the rock out of the quarry.
