The Lake of Tears in Leipzig is an artificially created, 162 x 79 meter large water basin in front of the Leipzig Völkerschlachtdenkmal, probably the most famous sight in Leipzig. The lake symbolizes the tears of the peoples who mourned the victims of the Battle of Leipzig in October 1813. More than 120,000 soldiers were killed in the battle that broke Napoleon's tyranny over Europe.
