The Lake of Tears in Leipzig is an artificial pool in front of the Leipzig Monument to the Battle of the Nations, probably the most famous sight in Leipzig. The lake symbolizes the tears of the peoples who mourned the victims of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig in October 1813. More than 120,000 soldiers died in the battle that broke Napoleon's tyranny over Europe.

In front of the memorial there is a 162 by 79 meter large pool of water, which was renamed "Lake of Tears for the Fallen Soldiers" by the National Socialists in 1938. It is meant to symbolize the tears of the people mourning those who died in the battle. This name is still used in Leipzig's vernacular.

The large 180m long and 80m wide water basin at the foot of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig symbolizes the tears that were shed during the great battle - the "Lake of Tears". If you stand directly in front of the Lake of Tears, the Leipzig Monument to the Battle of the Nations is reflected in it.
