Gawsworth Hall is a timber-framed house dating to the 14th century. The beautiful black and white house was once home to Mary Fitton, thought to be Shakespeare's 'Dark Lady', and playwright Samuel 'Maggoty' Johnson.

The house didn't always bring good luck to its residents. In 1712, a dispute over the house resulted in the deaths of both participants.

Today, the house is lived in and owned by the Richards family. You can visit the Grade I-listed hall from May until September Tickets cost £8.50. Regular events are also held in the hall. For more information, visit: gawsworthhall.com.

This part of Gawsworth is a nice village location.
