It was built in the fifteenth century and was part of a larger complex consisting of four very important buildings for the area.

The entire Medelana complex seems to be the ideal location for a horror film or paranormal legends. Quiet, imposing and abandoned, despite its beauty on foggy days it is capable of arousing serious concern. However, unlike many decadent buildings in the Apennines, the castle of Medelana does not seem to want to give in to the weight of time.

In 2018 the castle was included in the list of places in the heart of the FAI (even if it still occupies a rather low position in the ranking).
