Tips

  • The lake is a quarry pond, created as a result of sand and gravel mining from the late 1960s to the 1980s. In the early days it was popularly called "Lago Laprello" (the quarry pond in the Heinsberg district of Lieck is also called Lago Laprello, after the gravel mining company), but it was officially named after Adolf Freiherr Spies von Büllesheim from Ratheim, who was a member of the Bundestag for the Heinsberg district at the time.
