From 1962, Hamburg's police headquarters were housed in the Berliner Tor high-rise. and was moved to this new building at Bruno-Georges-Platz 1 in January 2000.

The topping-out ceremony for the new police headquarters was celebrated in Hamburg on December 7, 1998. A six-storey, star-shaped building was created in Alsterdorf based on the design by the Hamburg architects BRT Architekten - Bothe, Richter, Teherani, in which all functions of the police headquarters were accommodated on 30,000 square meters of office space. The ten rays of the star are arranged around an open, circular courtyard. Via a driveway and entrance area, the user arrives at a "distribution floor", from which the individual access cores, but also large-scale special functions such as the canteen, some of which are arranged in single-storey bodies between the bars.
The facades are characterized by black clinker bricks and green clinker strips, the roofs are designed as green roofs.
The new building, which cost 280 million marks, was completed in January 2000.
