Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel or Veldkant Chapel flanked by cypresses. Built in 1883 by the Denayer-Leemans family to replace a smaller chapel of thanksgiving by Jan-Baptist Leupaart from 1875-1878. The interior was embellished in 1902 by Count Cornet de Peissant with a grotto (now disappeared) and a statue of Our Lady from Lourdes that was carried in the procession.

The Veldkantkapel is a large neo-Gothic chapel on the Grote Kerkvoetweg in Grimbergen. This is the road along which the inhabitants of Heienbeek (Verbrande Brug) used to go to church on foot when this hamlet itself had no church yet. It is the largest chapel in Grimbergen and it is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes.
The Veldkantkapel was founded in 1872 or 1878 by the J. B. Luypaert-Potens family as a thank you for a healing obtained. In 1883 it was enlarged by order of the De Nayer-Leemans family from Vilvoorde in gratitude for the healing of their daughter. In 1902, Count Cornet de Peissant had a small cave made near the chapel in which he placed a statue of Our Lady that he had brought from Lourdes.
During the summer months, a mass was held here every Friday evening and until a few years ago masses were still celebrated in the month of Mary, but the condition of the chapel no longer allowed that.
The chapel is private property, but the owner is no longer known. The last known owner was Josephine De Naeyer, who acquired the chapel in 1907.

This is probably the largest, and according to some also the most beautiful chapel in Groot-Grimbergen.
Hidden in the greenery, along the Grote Kerkvoetweg, this chapel in neo-Gothic style was erected in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes.
In the past (early 20th century) the chapel contained a cave containing a statue of Our Lady from Lourdes. This cave has been removed again, but the statue has remained.
The Grote Kerkvoetweg used to be the "highway" between the neighborhood on the Verbrande Brug and the Abbey Church. Now it is a little-known footpath that is only used by a few pedestrians or cyclists.

The Mother of God depicted and venerated here is the one from Lourdes. This well-known Marian pilgrimage site is located in the French Pyrenees and is visited by many people every year, including many sick people who hope for healing. The devotional image of the Mother of God has become widespread - not only in France - and believers have built Lourdes chapels and grottos everywhere.
The church's memorial day "Our Lady of Lourdes" is on February 11th, this is the anniversary of the Marian apparition (1858), when the Mother of God appeared to 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in a rock grotto very close to Lourdes. Bernadette later became a nun and died at the age of just 35. On December 8th (the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary) 1933, she was canonized by Pope Pius XI.
The commemoration of the Madonna of Lourdes is also World Day of the Sick.
