Lake Sankelmark was formed at the end of the Weichselian Ice Age approximately 11,500 years ago in a depression left behind by glaciers. You can hike along natural trails directly along the shore of the large lake. A viewing tower offers a beautiful view from a slightly higher vantage point. There are several rest areas and interesting information boards along the lake.
