In the Biogenetic Reserve of Vallombrosa (Fi), in the Florentine Mountains, on the northern slopes of the Pratomagno Massif, there are the tallest plants of the whole Italian peninsula; Monumental plants that the particular microclimate of Vallombrosa has made them grow to heights never seen in Italy.
These are plants of the species Pseudotsuga menziesii, or the Douglas fir, also known as American fir.
The first on the podium, reaches a height of 62.45 meters for a circumference of 3.31 meters!
The second classified, which is a few meters away from the first, measures "only" 59.83 meters for a circumference of 3.44 meters.
