    From 'Hoogmolen' to 'Huisekoutermolen'

Originally this windmill was located in Waregem and was known there as Hoogmolen, at least since 1512. The windmill functioned until 1948 and was owned by the sisters Martha, Leontine and Magdalena Van den Broucke. The dates 1678 and 1708 were engraved in the hull of the mill. In 1968 the mill was bought by the municipality of Waregem, which, however, did not know what to do with it.

It was bought in 1971 by mill expert Paul Bauters, who broke it down in November of that year, transferred it to Huise and restored it in the years 1972-1975, in collaboration with the mill restorer Walter Mariman from Zele. In 1974 the mill was re-erected on a site where there used to be a stone ground sailor, Cnuddes mill, which burned down in 1851. Bauters gave it the new name Huisekoutermolen. After the repair, the mill was operational again and there was regular grinding. It also served as a center for the miller training courses organized by Paul Bauters.

The Huisekoutermolen for the repair works of 2010-2012

In 2001, too much torsion was noticed when turning and the activities were stopped. The wind tore off a mill blade, causing the owner to remove the entire sail cross in May 2007. He then gave the mill and the miller's house on long lease to the non-profit association Levende Oost-Vlaanderene Molens. Restoration happened in 2010-2012. On September 16, 2012, the mill, once again turned, was festively opened.

The site is part of a ridge between the Scheldt and Leie valleys. The mill has an open base and stands on dice. The mill house is nearby.

The mill was protected as a monument on its original site in Waregem on April 14, 1944. The surrounding landscape in Huise was protected on November 28, 1980.
