In summer, lace up your boots and backpack to hike the trail from Hörschel to Blankenstein.
But the Rennsteig also offers a special experience in the cold season.
At 142 kilometers between Ascherbrück (Ruhla) and Brennersgrün (Lehesten), the Rennsteig ranges between 500 and 980 meters above sea level.
This makes it the longest long-distance ski trail in Central Europe.
Since 2013, the Rennsteig Ski Trail has been signposted throughout and certified by the German Ski Association.
