Here you can have a wonderful picnic. You have a fantastic view of Suhl, if the weather is fine, of course a lot further. The observation tower is also popular

The highest (970 m) and at the same time one of the most beautiful viewpoints directly on the Rennsteig, above the city of Suhl, where the Rennsteig reaches its highest point (973 m), bears the name of the "inventor" of the Rennsteig hike. The path runs here on the south side of the Großer Beerberg just below the summit, the highest in the Thuringian Forest (982 m), which in turn does not offer any noteworthy views, but is nevertheless of great value as a protected moor biotope.
In the foreground are Heidersbach and Goldlauter and the district-free city of Suhl (one of 13 district capitals in GDR times), enclosed on both sides by steep mountains (to the right of Domberg with the Bismarck Tower, to the left of Ringberg and Döllberg), in the background with good visibility you can look up to the Rhön and far in the direction of Coburg.
An annotated panorama picture is attached to the wooden viewing platform for orientation. It comes from Roland Kastner from the Suhl local group of the Rennsteig Association.
