The highest and at the same time one of the most beautiful vantage points directly on the Rennsteig. Above the town of Suhl, where the Rennsteig reaches its highest point, it bears the name of the "inventor" of the Rennsteig hike. The path runs here on the south side of the Großer Beerberg just below the summit, the highest in the Thuringian Forest (982 meters), which itself has no view worth mentioning, but is nevertheless of great value as a protected moor biotope.
In the foreground are Heidersbach and Goldlauter and the district-free town of Suhl, which is enclosed on both sides by steep mountains (to the right of Domberg with the Bismarck Tower, to the left of the Ringberg and Döllberg). In the background, when visibility is good, you can see as far as the Rhön and far in the direction of Coburg.
A commented panorama picture is attached to the wooden viewing platform for orientation. It comes from Roland Kastner from the Suhl local group of the Rennsteig Club.

Here you can have a wonderful picnic. You have a fantastic view of Suhl, if the weather cooperates, of course much further. The lookout tower is also popular.
