The rat-catcher town of Hameln is known worldwide as the home of one of the rather gloomy fellows of German fairy tales, the Pied Piper of Hamelin. From May to mid-September, everything is in line with this legend, which comes to the Pied Piper outdoor game on numerous dates alive. The revival of this legend can be found in the context of the Weser Renaissance and half-timbered style old town with its mysterious streets.

It is best to visit Hameln in good weather when you can sit outside in front of the restaurants. You chill with ice cream or coffee and cake and watch the hustle and bustle. Most of them are volunteers for fun, you can see scowl. Hameln is the "metropolis" of the Weser region and has almost Mediterranean flair. I can not remember how many times I've been here ....

The city is characterized by a large number of half-timbered houses that have been renovated and restored over the past few decades. Osterstraße is the largest pedestrian zone and offers several restaurants and cafes. It is recommended to explore the whole city center. The beautiful little streets invite you to explore and are very suitable for a break on a bike tour. Shopping is also not neglected. If you feel like it, visit the "Stadt Galerie" - stadt-galerie-hameln.de.
A visit to the Klüt should also be planned, it is definitely worth it. From the Klütturm the view is extremely good and also beyond Hameln.

A nice bike ride leads from the Werderbrücke over the Weser promenade to Reherweg, Wehler march, Steinkuhlenfeld to Juniper mountain and Ützenburg. Then on to the Reimerdeskamp, into the Schillerstraße to the Erichstraße in the pedestrian zone and up to the Werder and enjoy something delicious.

Hamelin is full of life. The city is just a whim. I come here by bike from Hildesheim, back is comfortable with the train.

The old town of Hameln is really nice. With 5.- € you can book a city tour of one hour. At the tourism office. There also meeting place; 10:00 clock it starts. Well worth it in any case, because you get some interesting background information. Oh yes, without a bike. Tip to eat: "pancake house". Nicely decorated and sometimes a great alternative to pizza and crepes, and tastes sweet or sour.

The old fire station of the Hameln volunteer fire brigade is located between Alter Marktstrasse and Ostertorwall. The city's first syringe house was opened here in 1777. In 1936 a new building was opened that fundamentally modernized the guard. In 1967 and 1975 the fire station was expanded again and partially redesigned.

As today's fire fighting vehicles and equipment finally did not find enough space at the old location, a new station was opened in 2008. The old fire station is now used as a residential building.

Hameln is a city on the river. The place has been inhabited since the Stone Age. Hamelin, mentioned for the first time around 802 AD, has a checkered but urban planning happy and sometimes rich history. In addition to the old town and its buildings from the Romantic, Gothic and (Weser) Renaissance periods, visitors can see many buildings from the Baroque, Classicism, Historicism, Art Nouveau and modern times and, of course, trace the Pied Piper legend. Have fun exploring!
