The Gimmlitztal extends from the Hermsdorf lime works to the Lichtenberg dam and to the confluence with the Freiberger Mulde below Lichtenberg in the Eastern Ore Mountains. It is traversed by the Gimmlitz, a right tributary of the Freiberger Mulde. The valley forms the eastern border of the Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park in Saxony up to the federal highway 171.

Hiking

The Gimmlitz rises just below the crest of the Ore Mountains on Hermsdorfer Flur and collects the water of its 27-kilometer-long valley until it unites with the Freiberger Mulde.
In earlier centuries, after the settlement of the Ore Mountains, it was used as a mill valley and for cattle breeding (e.g. about 25 mills around 1900), today it is a nature reserve.
The Reichenau part of the Gimmlitztal covers about 5 km shortly after its source near Hermsdorf.
There are preserved technical monuments here (sawmill Illingmühle, bone crusher Weicheltmühle). Traditional crafts and artists have settled here.

In spring numerous orchids and other rare mountain meadow plants bloom here. Personal recommendation: Take a break and just look and listen to nature! Absolutely relaxing! Please think of the conservation, so that we enjoy it for a long time.
