Best Hikes to Swedish House (Theresienhof Villa)

Tips

  • The agricultural property on the eastern shore of Lake Scharmützelsee was first mentioned in documents in 1851 as "Theresienhof". It originated from a water mill. Well-known private owners included the actress Ernestine Wegner and the Renz circus family. Owned by various companies and institutions since 1918, the "Theresienhof" was used as a recreation and holiday home or training facility. In 2008, the main building, often referred to as a castle, was demolished. The striking villa ("Swedish house") built in 1911 remained.
