The "Burg" military cemetery commemorates the victims of the Dolomites Front during World War I. It was established between 1915 and 1918 as an interdenominational military cemetery for fallen soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Army and prisoners of war. After numerous reburials and neglect, the cemetery was restored in 2003/2004 and ceremoniously reopened in 2004.
The cemetery is accessible via a short climb from San Candido and can be visited as part of a hike along the "Burg Circular Trail" (trail marker 4).

This very well-kept cemetery, which is located a little outside of San Candido, should definitely be viewed and taken some time for it. There are display boards that describe the story very well. It's worth it!!
