Peyreleau is listed as a Small City of Character. It is built on a hillock in the foothills of the Causse Noir. The village is at the start of many hikes. It is also the meeting point of remarkable natural sites: the Causses Noir, Méjean and Sauveterre, as well as the Jonte and Tarn gorges.

Peyreleau is a town in Aveyron, in the Occitan region, 20 km north of Millau, bordering the department of Lozère.

The 16 km² of territory, ranging from 392 to 882 m, is bordered on the north by the course of the Tarn and Jonte. The village developed on a cliff overlooking the confluence of two rivers that form gorges that overlook plateaus and mountains.

At the crossroads of important roads in antiquity and the Middle Ages, Peyreleau, dating from the eleventh century, has a fortress protecting the entrance to the Viscount of Millau. It is the seat of the Revolution of the Lords of Albignac.

The town once known for the cultivation of grain, hemp, saffron or silkworms, no longer holds nearly 80 people. However, the heritage and environment preserved in the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park make it a popular stopover for ecotourism enthusiasts.
