This cycle tour is exciting from a cultural and historical perspective, as it leads over and along the former zone border several times and border fortifications can also be experienced here. A route that alternates between short stretches of forest and open land allows for many, wide views. The route is named after the Point India observation tower on the Sohlberg. It is the relic of a large US military base (OP India), built in 1984.

There is an observation tower on the Heldrastein, the Tower of Unity. Border information is a reminder of the former inner-German border. Wonderful views of the Hessian and Thuringian Werra valleys, and as far as the Harz in good weather, delight every cyclist here.

The former observation tower of the US Observation Point (OP) India was built in 1984 using precast concrete. It stood directly on the border with the former GDR (today on the Green Belt). The remaining buildings of the American camp built on the Sohlberg in the 1960s were demolished after 1990.

From the end of 2016, the remaining observation tower of Point India was repaired with the support of the Werra-Meißner Savings Bank Foundation and declared a cultural monument.
