The Renaissance castle Budyně nad Ohří is a pearl of historical buildings in the Bohemian Central Highlands. In the past it used to be a water castle and today, among other things, it houses a museum with an alchemy workshop.

The origin of the castle dates back to the 13th century. It was built in its present form in the 15th century. At the end of the 16th century it was given its Renaissance style. In 1759 a fire destroyed parts of the castle, which were later demolished.

The early Gothic castle was built on the site of the Přemyslov Manor in the second half of the 13th century. In 1336, Zbyněk Zajíc from Valdek and Hazmburk became the owner of the castle, and during his tenure the entire estate experienced its greatest prosperity. It is a very valuable complex that has undergone several historical reconstructions. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Jand museum was founded in the castle grounds. Now there is an example of an alchemical workshop and laboratory from the time of Rudolph II.
