Located in the heart of the city, yet still a real forest, the Plänterwald is perfect for a leisurely nature walk. With its many different tree species, the Plänterwald has a truly natural character. The forest was established as a coppice forest in 1760. In coppice forestry, trees are felled not according to age, but according to size. This ensures that only individual, particularly large trees are felled, while the surrounding trees remain standing – creating a mixed forest almost resembling a primeval forest.
