The church ruin as a monument is very present on Weißenfelder Straße, which you cross on the Saale Cycle Path. It was founded in 1045 by Bishop Hunold.
Very often lightning struck the high dome of the tower. When lightning struck in 1865, the bells were also struck. In 1888 the church tower was converted into a water tower. In 1974 the ruin was transformed into an open-air museum.
