Hiking

The Altenhammer Nordbruch is one of numerous former granite quarries in this area. After the old hammer mill lost its importance at the end of the 19th century, large quarries were operated there, among other things. Granite mining developed into an important source of income for the population. Around Flossenbürg, there were once more than forty quarries. Flossenbürg granite was a sought-after noble building material. The grandstand at the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds on the Zeppelinfeld in Nuremberg is also made of Flossenbürg granite.
