The Baldinger Tor (Balding Gate) in Nördlingen is one of the five historic city gates and was first mentioned in 1376. It secured the road toward Würzburg and Frankfurt am Main and was part of the medieval city fortifications. The outer gate was completed in 1406 by Master Wenceslaus, and a new structure was built in 1430 under the direction of the stonemason Conrad Stenglin.

Originally, the gate complex resembled the Berger Tor: a rectangular main gate with an almost square outer gate. The tower was five stories high and supported a circular top with a gun parapet and a tent roof. The gate was damaged during the Thirty Years' War, and in 1703 the tower unexpectedly collapsed – presumably due to inadequate repairs. Five people were killed.

The Baldinger Gate looks a bit crippled compared to the other gates, which is because the tower has collapsed. 🤷‍♂️
