    Roman ruins, Schönbrunn Palace
This building is an ensemble designed by Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg. It was built in 1778 and is completely integrated into the surrounding nature - a romantic garden setting. Ruined buildings were encouraged in England before the middle of the 18th century, but they only became widespread decades later.

      Engelsbrunnen, Schönbrunn Palace
The Angel Fountain was probably created as part of the sculptural design of the park around 1777.
A 1784 description by Johann Bernoulli states:
"...you come to a large square, where on one side there is a green latticework, with a large portal and six large niches in which seats are attached. In the large portal there is a very large rose-colored and white-speckled water basin; sit above "two small children on a whale from which the water runs into the pool".
The latticework mentioned (= Treillage) was later replaced by today's iron lattice. The fountain system underwent a massive redesign after 1945 due to war damage.
The shell basin originally installed here, which comes from the Renaissance Neubuilding Castle in Vienna Simmering, was removed in the mid-1990s for conservation reasons and replaced by a replica made from the original.

Artificially built ruin in the spirit of romanticism, beautiful ensemble that blends in well with the park.
