Hundreds of children attended school here between 1845 and 1985. The school was named 'De Hoop' and was run by the Sisters of the Faith. The Sisters also lived at this location.
In 2009-2011, the buildings were completely restored by the City of Tielt with the support of Leader Tielts Plateau, Tourism Flanders and the Province of West Flanders and were given a new tourist destination.
In 2022, the site was further developed into a fully-fledged rest and experience point with the support of the Province of West Flanders.
