The foundation stone of the church was laid on the festival of Christ the King, October 29, 1967. The construction had become necessary because the old church at the Lohrbach moated castle had become dilapidated and too small. The midnight mass on Christmas Eve 1966, when part of the ceiling collapsed and fell into the aisle when the room was fully occupied, will not be forgotten. This collapse triggered the rebuilding of the church, which could already begin in the summer of 1967.
