At a quay length of 400 meters, the harbor has a total of four moorings, each with a draft of 2.80 meters, which allows loading and unloading of ships of all types and loads. Up to three inland vessels can be handled here simultaneously.Mainly bulk commodities such as fertilizers, grain and wood are handled. The port of Uelzen on the Elbe-Seitenkanal, with a throughput of more than 400,000 tonnes annually, is of particular importance for the economic region. Directly attached is an industrial area. The Elbe side canal connects Uelzen in a day trip to the seaports of Hamburg and Lübeck as well as to the industrial and commercial centers of Hannover, Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Magdeburg. In addition, the Elbe side canal provides access to the entire European inland waterway network.Uelzen can be reached by water for inland class 5b (large motor cargo vessels) with coasters up to 2.80 m draft and max. 2,100 t load capacity.
