It will be a good idea to take a ferry from Kure Port if you want to move quickly to Hiroshima city. Leaving at least every two hours with about $10 fare. It is less than one hour on board.
Passing both Shimanami Kaido and Tobishimakaido is possibe via bike ride from Onomichi to Inabari, ferry from Inabari to Okamura Island, and bike ride from Okamura to Kure. From Kure to Hiroshima, take a ferry from this port.
