Legend has it that the wife of the landlord Julius Bierbaum, who had the "Bierbaums Nagel" lookout tower built, rode a donkey up this path to the tower. Hence the path got its name.

The Eselspatt leads almost directly from Bonenburg up to the Bierbaums Nagel lookout tower. Accordingly, the gradient is quite large in places, but never particularly steep. Coming from Bierbaums Nagel (i.e. from the west) you can really pick up speed here, especially since the route is not technically demanding. Hands off the brakes and go. ;) Joking aside: Of course, you have to be ready to brake and make sure you can come to a stop within sight. Because the path is also used by hikers for ascent or descent.

With the MTB you can also use the path for ascent, as it does not make any special demands except for the gradient. That falls into the "short and sweet" category.
