The Drususdam was a dam (molus) in the Waal, near the junction of the Rhine and Waal, built around 10 BC. by the Roman general Nero Claudius Drusus (38 -9 BC). It served to push (part of) the Rhine water that previously flowed down the Waal to the Nederrijn. Thus the Lower Rhine, then border river of the Roman Empire, became wider and deeper. This also meant more water was available for the Drususgracht, which connected the Nederrijn via the IJssel with the Flevomeer and the northern coasts. The dam was built during the Batavian Revolt in 70 AD. destroyed. Only two short passages in the Roman writer Tacitus mention the dam or embankment of Drusus.
