On the one hand there are swirl holes (so-called outcrops) on the bottom of current or former flowing waters and on the other hand lakes in bogs. The term is mainly used in the originally Low German language area and overlaps in meaning with Gumpe, which is more common in the South German language area and mainly refers to hollows at the foot of waterfalls.
