The Amsterdam canal belt consists of a network of landscaped canals. The canals were built in the 16th and 17th centuries to create a new port city. The canal belt consists of four main canals: Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. Due to its uniqueness, the belt has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
