Mecklenheider forest nature trail

The Mecklenheider Forest dates back to the 19th century and forms the “green remainder” of a formerly extensive heathland that used to go from Engelbostel to the List.

Today the forest in the north-west of Hanover has a size of 75 hectares. It is located in the Vinnhorst district and borders the A2 motorway in the north and the Mittelland Canal in the south. With benches, a playground and a lawn, it invites you to rest and relax. A nature trail provides information about native trees and bushes. The mixed forest consists mainly of oaks and beeches with small spruce stands. In the truest sense of the word, the numerous pines that z. Some of them are more than 150 years old and shape the forest, especially in winter.

The "Kinderwald Hannover" is located directly at the Mecklenheider Forest. This special area was set up in the spring of 2000 by and for young people. Since then, children and young people between the ages of 4 and 17 have had the say: They designed and developed the seven hectare site.
