Hiking Highlight
A simple gantry over the Mulde in Rochsburg was mentioned around 1480. Since about 1878 existed a "wavering footbridge" - popularly called swing bridge. In 1936, this old bridge was renewed and during the 1954 flood, the entire bridge was torn away. In the years 1955/56 the construction of a new suspension bridge took place.
After all, this construction lasted for 57 years until the completion of the new, modern bridge in autumn 2011.
-The new Rochsburger suspension bridge
October 7, 2018
Countless hikers cross this Rochsburger landmark every season. Meanwhile, the old suspension bridge has been replaced by a new one. This was opened in autumn 2011.
The major routes of the local and local network of trails lead over the suspension bridge. The building is the only and most important connection for hikes along the Zwickauer Mulde. Whether in the direction of Penig, or in the shower valley to the "effervescent king" direction Burgstädt, also to "Höllmühle" past the "horse stables", a rock formation near the "Biebermühle", the tours are definitely an experience for young and old!
The bridge is also significant for the many day-trippers who travel by train from Burgstädt (train station) via Helsdorf to Rochsburg.
For the inhabitants of the settlement "Am Wald" it is the connection to their land.
In the vernacular, the housing estate is also called "small Poland".
It should be mentioned that in the thirties of the last century the construction of a stone bridge (model was the hollow bridge Rochlitz) was planned. The plan remained, he was never executed.

A high-water mark from 03.06.2013. It is located at the upper edge of the new bridge at the Muldeschleifen. Here you can clearly see how devastating the amount of water and the damage had to be. 😳☝🏻

The old bridge was more like jumping and rocking. She was much narrower and more filigree and therefore more flexible. It was severely damaged after the flood in 2002 and later replaced by the current structure. A structurally identical bridge as it used to be can still be accessed upstream in Zinnberg. Also in Wolkenburg the rope bridge was replaced after erm flood 2012.
