Currently, the castle is only accessible to a limited extent because there is a large construction site around the castle.

Reminds me a bit of Neuschwanstein Castle. Style before functionality! The park and the castle are worth a visit. A café with an outdoor area can be found in the outer bailey, in the immediate vicinity.

A very nice castle with really nice paths and bridges in the park.

Built in the 19th century and mimicked an older style.

Small lakes in a park around the castle with a playground and a coffee outside. Viewing is worth it.

Evenburg Castle in Leer is a unique cultural monument and an old moated castle in the middle of an English park. Impressive avenues lead into the surrounding landscape. The castle park has always been open to everyone.
The Imperial Baron von Ehrentreuter built the castle in southern East Frisia in 1642 in the Dutch architectural style. By the middle of the 19th century, the castle was too small for the needs of the residents and no longer up to date. Count von Wedel had the dilapidated castle rebuilt almost from scratch. The new castle was completed in a record construction time of just 2 years.
Further construction work followed in the next few years. In the castle, fine wallpaper and ceiling decorations still bear witness to aristocratic life in 1862.
Today the castle is owned by the Leer district.

The district of Leer is the owner of the castle – but only since 1975. The Evenburg castle belonged to the Counts of Wedel for centuries. It looks different today than it did when it was built.

The castle is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Due to renovations to the castle bridge, barrier-free access is currently not possible.
