Bike Touring Highlight
The 24 meter high residential tower of the former Electoral Castle is the landmark of Eltville on the Rhine that can be seen from afar. The building dates back to Balduin of Luxembourg, who in 1320 had been first raised by the Mainz cathedral chapter (and again in 1328) to the Archbishop of Mainz. The unacknowledged by the pope Balduin exercised this office intermittently until 1336, but resided in Eltville, not least because it had come between him and the citizens of Mainz to conflicts.
