    Historic Old Town + Sights - Hochstadt/MKK 🚴‍♂️

    The beautiful town center of Maintal/Hochstadt in the Main-Kinzig district offers many of the features that make it a historic place. The main street in the old town, paved before 1770, with its many half-timbered houses, was the center of public life for centuries. Along it are the old town hall, the inns, the fortified church with its churchyard, and the Upper Gate.

    The old town hall with its round tower, a half-timbered structure with an open stone hall, was rebuilt in 1683. Today, the town hall offers cozy hospitality in a tavern serving apple wine and a wine press.

    The district's landmarks include the elevated Upper Gate, part of a largely preserved medieval ring wall, and the early modern Schützenhäuschen (shooting lodge) located to the north in the orchards.

    The most important architectural monument is the fortified church of St. Kilian, located near the Upper Gate. Its tower dominates the townscape, and parts of the building and its surrounding wall date back to before the turn of the first millennium. The interior features valuable ceiling and wall paintings. The fortified tower at the entrance to the church now serves as a bell and clock tower. The original church tower no longer exists. 🚴‍♂️
