The common cranberry and peat moss
People who have found spots with lots of Common Cranberries tend to keep the location to themselves. Just like amber and mushroom pickers, this is part of the game. But it's not that difficult to find the berries in the dunes in West Jutland. The common cranberry grows in many places. Always where it is damp and often with peat moss. Both species grow in extremely nutrient-poor places. Peat moss gets all of its nourishment from rainwater and does not use roots. The leaves have two types of cells: normal cells, which use photosynthesis to produce energy, and special cells, which can store large amounts of water. As with many plant species on nutrient-poor soil, the cranberry bush coexists with underground fungi. The bush receives nourishment from these and gives back carbohydrates and vitamins.
