From Fåborg you can take the ferry to the small island of Lyø, it is the westernmost of the South Funen Islands and has a special history: around 1540, 24 farming families were exiled to the island after a failed uprising against their landlord. Descendants of the expelled still live here today. The island with the centrally located village of Lyø, which, with its half-timbered houses and five ponds, is one of the most beautiful villages in Denmark, is around 6 km² in size.
