    Hiking

The 23 meter high Rinkenturm offers a great view of the city of Baiersbronn and its surroundings. The best thing to do is to walk the Premiumweg Satteleisteig straight away and you will automatically pass the tower. The Premiumweg has rest stops along the entire route.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is there parking available near the Rinkenturm, and is it free?

Yes, there are usually parking options available near the trailheads leading to the Rinkenturm. While specific parking fees can vary, many forest parking areas in the Black Forest region are free or operate on an honesty box system. It's advisable to arrive early, especially on weekends or during peak season, as parking spots can fill up quickly.

How can I reach the Rinkenturm using public transport?

The Rinkenturm is located near Baiersbronn, which is accessible by train. From Baiersbronn train station, you would typically need to take a local bus or arrange for a taxi to get closer to the trailheads. Planning your route with a local transport app is recommended to find the most convenient connections and bus stops for your starting point.

Is the Rinkenturm suitable for families with young children or strollers?

The Rinkenturm itself requires ascending 96 steps to reach the observation deck, which is not suitable for strollers. While the area is known for family-friendly trails, some paths leading to the tower might be too challenging for strollers due to uneven terrain. For families with young children, it's best to choose easier, well-maintained paths and be prepared to carry smaller children up the tower steps.

Are dogs allowed on the trails leading to the Rinkenturm and inside the tower?

Dogs are generally welcome on the hiking trails in the Black Forest, including those leading to the Rinkenturm, provided they are kept on a leash. However, access for dogs inside the Rinkenturm itself (up the 96 steps to the observation deck) might be restricted or difficult due to the narrow staircase. It's best to check local signage or consider if your dog can comfortably manage the climb.

How long does it typically take to hike to the Rinkenturm viewpoint?

The hiking time to the Rinkenturm varies significantly depending on your starting point and chosen route. For example, hiking the popular Satteleisteig premium trail, which passes the tower, can take several hours for the entire loop. What is the best time of year to visit the Rinkenturm for optimal views and weather?

The Rinkenturm is best visited during the warmer months, typically from late spring (May) through early autumn (October). During this period, the trails are clear, and the weather is generally pleasant for hiking. The tower is temporarily inaccessible in winter due to the risk of ice and the installation of festive lights, so avoid visiting during those months if you wish to climb to the top.

Are there any cafes or refreshment options near the Rinkenturm?

While there isn't a cafe directly at the Rinkenturm, the surrounding area, especially along popular hiking routes like the Satteleisteig, often features rest stops or traditional Black Forest inns (Gasthäuser) where you can find refreshments.
