The name of the place does not go back to the term "evening", but to "An den Benden", which means "beautiful lush meadows". Abenden lies between two villages through which the Rur also flows. To the north is Brück and to the south is Blens. It is more likely that today's place name goes back to the term “Aubenden”. A "Au" is a "meadow by the river". It is well known that particularly lush grass grows in meadows near the river because of the constant moisture. Even in Celtic times, river meadows were reserved exclusively for livestock farming. Because of the risk of flooding, floodplains were neither cultivated nor built on more than 2,000 years ago.

Really a nice place and away from the more visited places in the area.

It is well known that particularly juicy grass grows in meadows by the river because of the constant moisture. Already in Celtic times, river meadows were reserved exclusively for livestock. Due to the risk of flooding, floodplains were therefore neither farmed nor built on more than 2000 years ago.
