Ierapetra is the southernmost city in Europe. It's not very touristy. Even today you can find many testimonies from the Venetian and Turkish occupation times.
I find the waterfront promenade very nice with its restaurants, the Café Beterano, a walk around the Venetian castle and the mosque. I also love strolling through the garden center on the outskirts - those scents and plants are like all of Crete to me.

Hiking
Ierapetra is a small port town and the center of southeastern Crete. It's a great place to stroll and enjoy the many cafés and restaurants along the promenade, as well as in the pedestrian zone. Worth seeing are the Venetian castle at the harbor, renovated in 2023, and the ruins of the mosque with its fountain.
